September 8-9, Astana hosted an International conference on Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacy "Rational use of Medicines"

The conference was attended by more than 300 participants, including official delegates from regional Health departments, medical, pharmaceutical and scientific organizations, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, representatives of regional branches of the Republican Medical Chamber, WHO country office and foreign partners, foreign experts in the field of Clinical pharmacology.

The International conference was greeted by the Vice-minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lyazzat Aktaeva. In her speech, she noted that the conference will help to find new approaches to resolving pressing issues in Health care.

«"This event provides a unique opportunity for doctors, clinical pharmacologists and pharmacists to meet and discuss global topics of interest to the entire international community in the field of Clinical pharmacology and Pharmacy," the Vice-minister emphasized.

The two-day event aimed key audience to show the benefits, perspectives and fundamental role of Clinical pharmacology in the development of Health care, based on the principles of Evidence-based medicine.

Unique sessions took place within the framework of the conference, medicine experts and international experts talked about improving the work in Clinical pharmacology and Pharmacy, with the possibility of reducing the number of preventable serious health damage caused by errors in the use of medicines.

The reports were made by world-class experts: "WHO Global Initiative for Rational Use of Medicines" Maksut Kulzhanov Professor, Member of the Executive Committee of WHO, "The main Directions of the Drug policy" Arnur Nurtayev Head of the Project Group, "The Role of the National Formulary in the Good administration of Medicines" Karen Baxter representative of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Director of the British National Formulary (United Kingdom). An International consultant on the "Technology Transfer and Institutional Reform in the Health Sector" World Bank Project, Frans Stobbelaar described the key approaches to informing the public about the need for rational use of medicines.

For the first time on September 9 in Kazakhstan, on the site of the conference took place a Debate between representatives of pharmaceutical companies GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer on the topic: "Rational choice of Pneumococcal vaccines for Vaccine prevention programs in Kazakhstan."

Master classes for kazakh pharmacists were conducted by Professor Lilia Ziganshina, Head of the Chair of the Institute of Fundamental Medicine and Biology of the Kazan Federal University of Russia, on the topic "Cochrane Evidence for Rational Use of Medicines"; Doctor Clinical pharmacologist of the Republican Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan Albina Nigmedzyanova on the topic "Problems of Pharmacotherapy in Real Clinical practice", "What you need to know about the Infusion therapy" and "Errors of antimicrobial therapy"; professor of the University of Otago (New Zealand), Clinical pharmacist David Woods "Innovative approaches to Individual treatment"; Rosa Yagudina, Head of the Department of Organization of Medicine Supply and Pharmacoeconomics of the First Moscow State Medical University named I.M. Sechenov (RF).

14th EACPT Congress scheduled for Stockholm in 2019

The EACPT Executive Comittee is happy to announce the location and dates for the EACPT 2019 Congress.

The 14th EACPT Congress will be held from 29th June to 2nd July, 2019 in partnership with the Swedish Society for Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics.

We will be guests of the beautiful city of Stockholm.

The World Antibiotic Awareness Week for the third year in a row worldwide at the initiative of WHO.

The resistance of bacteria to antibiotics is one of the greatest dangers to public health throughout the world. In Kazakhstan, within the framework of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week from 13 to 19 November 2017, the Center for Rational Use of Medicines of the Republican Center for Health Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as CRUM), conducted an information campaign among the population, the medical and pharmaceutical community, and specialists in the field of agriculture, the main purpose of which was to improve the awareness and understanding of the threat of antibiotic resistance.

On November 13, 2017, there was a Round Table on the discussion of the National Plan for Combating Antimicrobial Resistance (CAR) within the World Antibiotic Awareness Week.

Report on the 2017 EACPT Congress in Prague

The EACPT 2017 Congress was held in Prague from 24th-27th June with 566 participants from all 5 continents – 28% from beyond the European Region, from Australia to China, Japan and South Korea to the USA. 487 abstracts were presented as 171 oral communications and 316 e-poster presentations were by delegates from the European Region and around the world.

The Congress included 2 plenary sessions, 22 parallel sessions with Keynote Lectures, 5 Oral Communications sessions and 3 Guided Poster Sessions on current issues for research, education and clinical practice on safe and effective use of medicines.  The programme provided an international scientific and educational forum for discussion of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, including personalised pharmacotherapy.

Themes included the latest developments on effectiveness and safety of medicines, clinical pharmacology in clinical practice, pharmacokinetics/systems pharmacology, including in special populations, innovative techniques, eHealth, biomarkers, education, advanced practices in topics such as drug discovery, drug development, biological therapies, global health with a focus on access to safe medicines, new pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, safety in prescribing and updates on personalised medicines, as well as updates on specific therapeutic areas, including cardiovascular disease, infectious disease, nephrology, oncology, neurology and psychiatry.

The EACPT was founded 25 years ago and now includes as members all national organisations for clinical pharmacology in Europe, as well as organisations from further afield internationally. The EACPT aims to provide educational and scientific support for the more than 4000 individual professionals interested in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics throughout the European region, with its congresses attended by a global audience. The EACPT also advises policy makers on how the specialty can contribute to human health and wealth.
